Something I have seen is a growing number of “landscape” mode websites. The majority of the web, from an iphone users perspective is done vertically, probably as this allows the most amount of reading before a scroll needs to happen and also because the device is slightly easier to hold in this fashion. Along comes the android, who’s screen is super high density pixels and has the same narrow dimension as the iphone has longest side.

Here are a few quick screenshots taken using the Apple iPhone Simulator as part of Xcode, to try and explain my point.

There are even a few which look really clean horizontal, which orientation you aim for isn’t critical but make sure you are optimizing the viewing area for both. I have more to say on this subject, including the sizing of content for the newly release android but I need to finish this up as my battery is about dead. Until next time.

6. ringtones, some people would want moaning when the phone rings or message shows up

7. adult texting chat service

8. contest to win a trip to a video shoot or adult convention

9. listings of local swingers events

10. reviews for movies, to allow members to pick favorites

11. Bonus Idea: Movie recommendation engine: send out a weekly e-mail suggesting movies they might be interested in based on other movies recently watched and rated.

Something that a few people have asked me, is “Why Porn?” It is a hard question, as it is something that I avoid promoting for a long time. I have fellow web developers who have been in the industry for a few years and have made great income, but on earlier attempts I didn’t make squat.

Then I tried mobile, with a premium domain I had kicking around everything changed. The money start flowing in, and I got hooked.

This is a question we must all ask, when getting started in the adult industry. Unlike promoting amazon, where it is a clean cut % of total purchase, the adult industry has a different structure. No matter which one you choose, you are going to continue to question it and try and second guess your choice. Now I’m not here to tell you which to do, as I can’t do that.

This will probably be a question I will touch on a lot, especially in trying to help new webmasters get started. Maybe I’m a little biased, because I started out with a major affiliate company which only offers minute packages and only offers %revshare for webmasters and I don’t feel like I earned enough from that. After 2 years of promoting that company, and their content, I have made $26.93. With my newest mobile site, I can make $25 for a single mobile signup.

I have no factual data to support the rest of the post, and I have never paid for porn, so let it be said. But, I think I have some valid logic and feel free to stop reading if you don’t agree.

With the recent pressure from credit card companies, to make unsubscribing easier and billing more clear I don’t think as many people will be duped into the multiple months of auto billing. Especially with the affect of the recession, where people are more likely watch their credit card bills more carefully, I think they would be more quick to cancel even before the end of a 3 day trial. So what is my suggestion? Get as much $ as quick as possible. Once you have built up a quality site, with a comfortable income then you can allow a % of the traffic to get tagged for %revshare model.

Important thing to remember, no matter which method you choose to promote, it shouldn’t affect the % of traffic who convert to paid accounts. What it will affect is the short term income. Outside of the adult industry, with services that people need like web hosting or contact lenses it might be more safe to risk the %revshare, as the difficulty to change web host or contact lense auto delivery might prevent someone from changing companies and therefor lead to long term income. With mobile porn, people who try the trial are very likely to not continue on for 3 or more months, which is about the break even point between %revshare and PayPerSignup.

Possibly the fastest growing niche over the past 3 years is mobile porn. If you haven’t looked at a naked picture on your cellphone, or a porn video you are behind the times. If you aren’t making money when other people watch porn on their ipod, you are missing out.

There are hundreds of great affiliate companies who have carved up the mobile market and moved their movies from the big screen down to the hand held. I’m not going to list them here now, but I will be doing reviews and write ups about each of them as time allows.

What you need to get started is a good domain. I don’t recommned .mobi, no one really uses it and I think it just confuses people. Get a good dot com, either in the porn space or mobile space. If you are reading this, then you have heard of iphods.com, or maybe this is your first time here. This domain was secured 3 years ago as a online store to sell iphone and ipod accessories. Over a few year time frame I managed to build up a solid collection of back links and authority, which I then decided to try out porn. The money is pouring in, instead of making 4% commission on Amazon ipod accessories, I’m making $25 a sign up or more for adult movie sites.
